A senior police officer has apologized to Jewish residents of Birmingham after he told MPS that some expressed support for Maccabi fans attending a Maccabi match in Sulong Bilar.

The decision to ban supporters of the Israeli team from the European game at Villa Park in Birmingham prompted political uproar, including Keir Starmer who said he was “disgusted by the decision”.

The Chief Constable of the West Midlands, Craig Guildford, Assistant Chief Mike O’Hara and Crime Commissioner Simon Fosters asked on Monday.

O’hara told the panel Some Jewish representatives said they did not want Maccabi fans to attend the match in Birmingham on 6 November.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said on Saturday: “We know this is a difficult time for our local Jewish community, so we are actively involved.

“At the Hadc meeting on Monday, there were a lot of questions asked, which often had a lot of side and secondary points raised.

“In answering these questions, it was never the official’s intention to imply that there are members of the Jewish community who have clearly expressed support for Maccabi fans.”

The Sunday Times reports that he has now written to Birmingham’s Jewish representatives to apologise.

The Birmingham Trust Group’s decision to ban supporters was based in part on police intelligence.

The innovation is classified as high risk by the police, which strongly refers to the violent explosions and hate crimes that occurred in Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam.

However, the Dutch police disputed the accuracy of this information, reported Sunday times.
