Wes Streeting slams no 10 bid to ‘beat’ him, denies plotting against PM, but says culture change ‘
Good morning. All governments are collections of people who don’t always agree, and don’t always get along, but who mostly persist in their disagreements. But sometimes disputes can be serious, and sometimes they can be public. The Guardian today led a report on Pippa Crearthe political editor, who discovered that the majority of senior Keir Starmer were so worried that he might face an imminent leadership challenge that they began to mislead against potential opponents.

Starmer’s allies say that the elimination of the PM would be a “reckless” and “dangerous” step that could worry the markets, and they seem more concerned about the threat from the threat from the threat from the threat from WES Streading, the health secretary.
Some lobby stories like this one, based on people speaking anonymously, don’t ignore them, because other journalists don’t believe them. But this morning all the other major news organizations are following this story, and very hard, because they know Pippa is right.
The streets are doing a media round this morning. Here are some of the main things he said in his interview with Sky News.
No, and I think whoever stated this is looking at a lot of celebrity traitors, and it’s about the worst attack on an honest person I’ve seen since Joe Marler was punched and fired at the end.
Yes, and I’m not going to shoot JFK either. I don’t know where Lord Lucan is, nothing to do with Shergar, and I thought the US was in charge of doing the moon landings. I don’t think they are fake.
This is completely self-defeating, not least because it’s not true and I don’t understand how anyone thinks this will help the Prime Minister even…
I think that, you know, coming out and calling your ‘feral’ foral’ is not going to help. I think that trying to kneel a team of its own when they are gone, is not just what the government is doing, but actually delivering the change that we promised and its own behavior.
I also think that whoever did this did not say it for the prime minister. I am speaking on behalf of the prime minister.
When Lucy Powell stood up to be Deputy Leader of the Labor Party and said that the culture needs to change in how we govern and how we govern, I think she was vindicated.
Powell, who won, lost to Bridget Phillipson, who was seen as a non-preferred candidate in the 10th. Powell stood down after the starmer was sacked from the cabinet.
The street does a perfect interview interview. I will post more from what he said soon.
Here is the agenda for the day.
9.45am: Daisy Cooper, Lib Demandy’s Lib Dem spokesperson, gave a speech about her party’s budget proposals.
Noon: Keir Starmer confronts Kemi Badenoch at PMQ.
After 12.30pm: Debate in the MPS Two streams of the day of the opposition, a word that does not have to say the budget, and another that says that the government should remove the green leaves.
1.45PM: WES Streeting, the health secretary, gave a speech at the NHS conference.
If you want to contact me, please post a message below the line when comments are open (normally between 10:00 o’clock), or message me on social media. I don’t read all the BTL messages, but if you put “Andrew” in a message directed at me, I’m more likely to see it because I’m looking for posts that contain that word.
If you want to flag something quickly, it’s best to use social media. You can reach me on bluesky at @ andrewsparrowgdn.bsky.socy. The Guardian has lost posting from the official X accounts, but the individual Guardian journalists are still there, I still have an account, and if you message me there at @and prournsparrow, I can see it and respond if necessary.
I find it very helpful when readers point out errors, even small typos. No mistake is too small to correct. And I also found your questions interesting as well. I can’t promise to answer them all, but I’ll try to answer as many as I can, either on BTL or sometimes on the blog.
