The union of doctors who act like a cartel and face taxes

The doctors’ union, the British Medical Association (Bma), is acting “like a cartel” and is threatening the future of the NHS, the health Secretary has said.

Wes Streeting has attacked the doctors’ union ahead of the 13th strike by resident doctors in their long-running dispute in England, which is due to start on Friday.

Speaking at a conference of NHS representatives in Manchester, Street said that the Bma holds the public and the government accountable for their actions.

He also criticized its opposition to higher taxes for the wealthy as a way to invest more in public services.

The Bma has been approached for comment.

In his speech, the Secretary of Health said that the Bma Union exists against higher taxes to protect pensions and consultants, which averaged £127,500 last year.

The five-day walk of the resident doctors – Who are called junior doctors – started at 07:00gmt on Friday. This comes after talks between the government and the Bma collapsed last week.

The government offered the union a deal to cover the cost of exam fees and expand training areas sooner than planned, but The Bma rejected it which said payment should be met.

The streets continued that he would not negotiate the payment after the residents received a salary of almost 30% in the last three years.

But the Bma argues that, despite the rise in pay, resident doctors are a fifth lower than in 2008, when inflation is taken into account.

The streets were applauded by the audience of NHS managers after launching what is the strongest attack on the Bma to date.

He said: “I encourage them to think about some things.

“The first is, I am responsible for 1.5 million people in the NHS, not just resident doctors, most of whom do not rise as much as what residents earn, will not meet the lowest paid doctor.

“The second thing I would say is that this strike action is causing a lot of suffering and destruction to patients who could do without it,” said the Secretary of Health.

“Thirdly, this is always true, and especially during the winter, it puts a lot of NHS staff picking pieces for damage and breaking up the residents of the residents.

“I think the leadership of the BMA should consider whether, at this time, with the green shoots of recovery, they want to restore the system, because there is not one more pro-doctor, pro-NHs, Secretary General or Govence waiting in the wings.”

The Health Secretary then went on to criticize the union for opposing higher taxes on the rich, which he said was an option for improving Public Folials and investing in the NHS.

“Let me tell you, when we ask some rich people to pay more, some of the most effective lobbyists against paying higher taxes are the Committee of Bma Consultants and the Committee of Bma Pensions.

“So what they’re effectively doing is saying, ‘We want other people to pay higher wages for doctors.

“It’s time for the BMA to get real. We’re not going to be held to ransom. We’re going to plow through no matter what,” said the street.

“And I think it’s very clear that the Bma is no longer a professional voice for doctors.

“They are increasingly behaving in cartel-like behaviour, and they are threatening not just the recovery of the NHS under this government.

“They are threatening the future of the NHS Full Stop. And I think that is a more understandable moral situation.”
