Keir Starmer is coming under strong pressure from a wide range of ministers and MPs to sack his chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, who has been accused of less than 10 in an extraordinary replacement of the health secretary by the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting.
Starmer is understood to have told MPs that he did not ride out his chief of staff and would not respond to a number of demands to ensure there were “consequences” for the masses.

However, the Secretary of Health appeared in the row – of MPs who praised a strong performance in the media and at least a back-in union to quit his vacancy.
Starmer also moved to calm relations privately in the run, with passages of a source “peace talks”.

A cabinet source said: “The approval is the formation of the cabinet that he has to go. I am angry about it. I still have an enemy.
Another cabinet source added: “I think the scales are falling from people’s eyes [about Morgan]. I don’t know if it’s worse that it was done with Keir’s permission or that he was so scrutinized that he didn’t know about it. “
A minister said that they think that the paranoia of 10 parts is justified. “I will defend them to a degree because everyone will see the Wes are actually running a leadership campaign and that this is the talk of the PLP [parliamentary Labour party]. We know that. We will see it.
“But I don’t think they meant to make it personal about Wes and that’s their big mistake, they wanted to show SIEIR having something to do with his fight.”
Allies on the street are among those who say MCSWEEney should be matched after a passionate 24 hours where the health secretary is strong against the Prime Minister after the budget.
“Keir has given his full support at PMQ. It’s classically untrue that Wes is preparing to challenge Keir,” a source close to Health said.
Government advocates say there is now pressure on Prime Minister MCSweeney from “many different quarters”. A source said: “Because Keir relies on him for political advice, the barrels are trained on him.”
Two said that the sources also said that between McSweeney and Darren Jones, the chief secretary to the Prime Minister, was troubled to recognize the scandals or quit the government.
MPS now believe that the Home Secretary, Homa Mahmmood, is McSweeney’s preferred successor to Starmer, and the two are working together to bring about an election at Labor HQ. A source close to Mahmood said it was “Nonsense” that he was running any kind of leadership and said he was targeting major asylum changes that would be announced soon.
