Dotted lines describe the border between Western Sahara and Morocco, which indicates the facing situation of the territory, not yet seen by people using Google Maps in the latter.
After media reports last week highlighted the discrepancy, the UN Security Council tied it to the Western Autonomy which acknowledged that it was often shown in the search region.
“We are not changing Morocco or the Western Sahara on Google Maps,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement of the French hardness.
“These labels follow our long-standing rules for border regions. People using maps outside of Morocco are looking at broken borders without seeing the Western Shah.”
Western Sahara is a large colony of former rich Spain that is largely controlled by Morocco but has been claimed for decades by Algeria.
The UN Security Council previously urged Morocco, the Polisario Front, Algeria and Mauritania to continue talks to reach a broad agreement.
However, at the initiative of the administration of President Donald Trump, the resolution of the Council supports a plan, initially presented by Rabat under the full sovereignty of Morocco.
