Police are re-examining the parents of the Southport Killer after an inquest

The parents of the Southportmer killer may be under investigation by police following their comments during the public outcry over the attack.

The Shomport Inquiry heard that their son, Axel Rudakapan, had shown disturbed and violent behavior before he was killed at a Taylor Swift Event Workshop on 29 July last year.

The force was previously considered charges against his parents, but said in June The evidence did not reach the path for a referral to the crown service to the crown service.

A spokesman for Mersionyside police said the force would now “assess whether any new information is provided [to the inquiry] don’t know that”.

During the hearings, Alphonse Rudakubana accepted that he had intercepted a package containing a machete that his son had ordered online in June 2023 and hid it on top of a wardrobe – but did not tell any agencies including mental health teams, police or social services.

He told the question: “I regret that I did not tell the police because, if I had done it, what happened on the 29th would not have happened.

“They will go and check everything in his room.”

He also said that despite warnings from teachers that Rudakuba was looking at gory and violent images online, he was not too strict about his teenager’s internet access in case it provoked a violent response.

“I have no authority as a father, I have no power whatsoever to prevent him from accessing whatever he wants online,” he said.

Mr. Rudakubana also failed to report that his son tried to leave the Moon in a cab on 22 July 2024, a week after the Formby high school attack that kicked him out in 2019.

He admitted to stopping his son from leaving because he was afraid he would attack the school, and believed he was carrying a knife even though he did not see it.

After the parents had given evidence, the families of the girls killed in the attack – Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and six-year-old Bebe King – released a statement condemning their failure to act.

Elsie’s parents, Jenni and David Stancombe, said they believed Mr Rudakabana and Mrs Muzayire “should be held to account for what they allowed to happen”.

“They know how dangerous he is, yet they keep quiet,” they said.

“They have failed not only as parents but as members of our society.”

Bebe’s parents, Lauren and Ben King, added: “What we’re trying to understand is not just [the killer’s parents’] Failure then, but their failure now – to acknowledge, to take responsibility, to face what they allowed to happen. “

Solicitor Chris Walker, from the law firm firm Bond Turner, which represents the families of the murdered girls, supported the clients “any investigation of the parents of Rudakabana.

“We are confident that a criminal investigation will conclude that an offense has been committed,” he added.

Oral hearings in the first phase of the HomePort Inquiry, which examined the attack itself and Rudakabana’s background, have concluded.

Shomid Shair Sir Adrian Turdord is expected to report in Spring 2026, before the opening of the second phase, which will look at the issue of young people who are aware of violence and how they manage it.
