A newly opened bridge in southwestern China’s Sichuan province has partially collapsed, creating a huge dust plume.

Authorities closed the 758m (2,486ft) high Hongqi Bridge on Monday after cracks appeared on nearby slopes and roads.

On Tuesday afternoon the situation on the side of the mountain worsened, causing a landslide that led to the collapse of part of the bridge, officials added.

There were no reports of casualties.

Construction of the bridge was completed earlier this year, according to a social media post by contractors Sichuan Road and Bridge Group.
