Artificial Intelligence Company Anthropic announced a $50bn investment in computing infrastructure on Wednesday that will include new data centers in Texas and New York.
“We are getting closer to AI that can accelerate scientific discovery and help solve complex problems in ways that were not possible,” CEO of anthropic, Dario Amodei, said in a press release.
Building large data warehouses takes an average of two years in the US and requires a lot of energy to fuel the facilities. The Company, Creator of Ai Chatbot Claude, which is popular among businesses that adopt AI, said in a statement that the “scale of this pound businesses while keeping our research ahead”. Anthropic said its projects will create about 800 permanent jobs and 2,400 construction jobs.
The Startup said it is working with London-based Fluidstack to build new computing facilities to power AI systems. It did not disclose their exact locations or what source of electricity the facilities needed.
The latest deal shows that the tech industry continues to spend heavily to build energy-hungry infrastructure, despite the financial impacts on the communities where they are built. Another company, Cryptocurrency-Mining Mining Developer Terawulf, previously revealed that it was working on Fluidstack in Texas and New York, on the shores of Lake Ontario.
Microsoft also on Wednesday announced a new data center in Atlanta, Georgia, which plans to have a thousand nvidia chips in the power of NVIDIA.
A report last month from TD Cowen said that the leading cloud providers leased an “increasing amount of health for the third year, accounting for more than 7.4GW of energy, more than at any time last year.
The tech industry’s massive amount of computing infrastructure for AI Startups that isn’t yet profitable has raised concerns about an AI investment bubble.

Investors have been closely watching the series of intertwined deals in recent months between leading AI developers of expensive computer chips. Anthropic said it will continue to “prioritize cost-effective, capital-intensive approaches” to scaling its business.
