Everyone on social media is an expert.
Or so they want you to believe. But every so often, that just might happen.
Serie a side como 1907 as thinking too, which recently hired the 20-year-old Felix Johnston as a first team Scout.
This is an unusual move for Johnston, who is now a CHELSEA host of X, promoting and providing analysis of the club’s academy stars.
Now he is helping to find players to improve a side managed by former Chelsea, Arsenal and Spain Midfielder Cesc Caprecas.
“It’s been a long journey,” Johnston told BBC Radio 5 on Monday night.
“It started with my friend messaging me on lock saying ‘You should get Twitter, where everyone is talking about football’.
“I took it seriously, built a following and where it started was when I discovered the Chelsea Academy.
“I love watching academy games, seeing young players. This is what I know, my niche on Twitter.”
From there he began to do his own scouting of players, and Chelsea’s youth transfer strategy gave him plenty to hit on.
“Suddenly their model is about signing young players so I stayed up until 2am watching Kendry Paez in the Under-17 World Cup, Estevao, in addition to finding talents myself,” added to the search for talents.
“I got a little recognition, including some people in the game, and that led to scouting me. Before that, it was really a passion.”
It’s been the last six months that things have really taken off for Johnston.
His first step in professional football came in April when he was hired by the Danish Team as a Scouting Consultant before, at the end of July, Como agreed.
“The recruiting director [at Como] I explained on Twitter that he liked what I tweeted and he wanted to do an internship and find some modern ones, the young scouts brought to the club,” said Joahang Bantayan.
“Obviously I’m happy to go with nine and nine weeks ago, I got the job.”
So he got the dream job, what is Johnston – who was united in the role of his university in Milan – assigned to Como?
“The recruitment director who hired me was the head of data at his previous club, Az Alkmaar, and a data-focused person,” he said.
“My role is that I go through the data players, look them in the eye and make a report.
“I look at the players they ask me to look at. But it’s an all-encompassing one that’s included in any region or position.”
Five full games is generally considered enough for Johnston to accumulate an initial report — though that varies.
“If they play for a low possession and they don’t touch the ball at all, then I have to look further for more evidence,” he explained.
He is not the traditional way of the game, but Johnston says that Como is a “forward-looking club” that “likes to get new talent”.
With the Club seventh in their second year back in Serie A, it’s an approach that seems to be working.
Meanwhile, Johnston’s big tip for the future is 16-year-old DeNine Onezerz.
“[Ordonez] A center back for Independiente Del Valle in Ecuador – the academy that Moises Caedo acquired. They are very talented and he is very talented. “
Note that because, from now on, Johnston’s analysis will be sent to Fabregas instead of Social Media Misa.
