Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Lady Vidaver also attended the annual event, which this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War I.
It also comes 25 years after a decade-long increase in the number of gay people serving in the armed forces, and the phenomenon of discrimination against LGBT personnel.
Princess Catherine sat next to her eldest son George, 12, and wore a possmade poppy made of silk, glass and other natural materials.
The royal family stood and applauded as the Chelsea Pensives – Retired Army Veterans – entered the auditorium and took to the stage, while an orchestra performed the boys of the old brigade.
The Prince of Wales was absent as he traveled from Brazil, where He gave a speech to world leaders Gathering for the Cop30 UN Climate Chatting Onit Summit and visited a remote island.
Still MediaThe event – broadcast on BBC One at 21:00 – was hosted by actress Hannah Waddingham and featured musicians including Sir Rod Stewart.
Many armed forces forces are also scheduled to join the stage to join the artists and perform military music, including military squadronires.
Veterans in attendance include some who helped plan D-Day – when allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in World War Two – and some who were prisoners of war.

Marking the period of the World War one that ended in 1918, it sees two minutes of silence held at 11:00 on the 11th day of the 11th month.
