Restaurant chain Toby Carvery has been urged to pay for life support for an ancient oak tree that was terminated by its owner at the end of spring.
Experts say the trunk of the 500-year-old tree, on the edge of a toby carvy car park in Whitewebbs, despite the branches of Restaurd in April.
The unauthorized logging is the subject of an investigation by the Forestry Commission. It is also at the center of a legal dispute between Mitchells & Butler Retail, the company that runs the Carvery, and Filfer Council, which was not consulted on its headquarters.
Meanwhile, Toby Carvery is under pressure to help make amends by funding a scheme to test the stump.
Russell Miller, an Arborist who specializes in ancient trees, says that the remains of the oak can be put on a form of “life support” very cheaply. Such a system helped preserve Poland’s oldest treehe said.
Miller said that the Toby Carvery Oak “is alive, and it is again – the issue is when the spots are not strong enough to generate enough energy to maintain the root system”.
He added: “The way to influence that is to put a sprinkler system in it to reduce the risk of individual failure of the shoot and a bomb. There is a cost of a bomb.
Adam Cormack, Head of Campaigns at Trust Forneland, said:
“We hope Toby Carvey will do all they can to ensure this beautiful tree has the best chance of survival.”
Cormack accepts that the chances of oak regeneration are unclear. “This type of work is more experimental, but we must try everything to get a future for this unique tree,” he said.
“In 200 years, we want a family to walk, point to its tree marks and tell the story of When the Whitewebbbs Almost Die. We need to act now to preserve what’s left of it.”

He added that the Forestry Commission’s investigation “must stem from a more serious incident”.
After the fall, Mitchells & Butler Retail suggests Deadwood. It is said that it was advised by the contractors that the wood needed to be distributed for safety reasons.
The company declined to comment on the call on funding attempts to keep the tree alive.
