A convicted sex offender who was wrongly released from prison a week ago is back in custody.
Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, 24, from Algeria, was accidentally released on 29 October from WandSport prison, in South London. He was arrested in Islington on Friday, the metropolitan police said.
A manhunt for Kaddour-Conif, who also has convictions for theft, was launched to meet. The force expressed displeasure that he had a “six-day head start” because the error was reported to the meeting a week later, on 4 November.
Kaddour-Chinif was identified as an overstayer five years ago, but was not removed from the UK. When he was wrongfully released from prison, he served a sentence for trespassing with intent to steal.

Kaddour-Cherif understood he was not available for asylum, and was in the first stages of being deported for holding his visa when he was abandoned.
He entered the UK on a Visitor Visa in 2019, but was flagged as an automatic overstayer on 6 February 2020.
According to the Met, Kaddour-Cherif used other variations of his first name, including Ibrahim, and had links to Westminsters and Tower Hamlets.
