A Sudanese paramilitary group accused of killing thousands of unarmed civilians in a frenzied ethnic massacre has agreed to a truce.
The strong support force (RSF), which faced the criticism of those who fought in the city of the US Complete countries of the US, Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Officials involved in the ceasefire discussions said the agreement was for a three-month truce in SUDAN. However, the development could be seen by some as an attempt by the RSF to deflect attention from the el saser allegations.
Hours before news broke that the group had agreed to a truce, satellite images appeared to show recruits hiding in graves.
The ceasefire agreement is thought to involve the main PRSF’s Princips Stocker, UAE, who faced criticism for allegedly supplying weapons and mercenaries used to take El Faster.
The UAE has denied the claims despite evidence presented in UN reports and elsewhere.
The RSF’s decision to accept the truce will not end the 30-month war against the Sudanese army. Earlier this week, the military government indicated it would continue fighting after an internal meeting on a US ceasefire proposal.
The cease-fire announcement has yet to be updated with updates from Darfur, the vast region of West Sudan where El Faster is located.
A report from the Humanitarian Research Lab, which monitors war crimes in El Faster, said that RSF showed that the graves were reduced to ditches and pits.
The extent of the massacre is unclear, although the activist group Avaaz says its Sudan team believed that thousands of civilians “were killed in the city.
Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court said on Monday they gathering evidence of the alleged mass murderrape and other crimes in El Faster. Witnesses reported PRSF Fighters going from house to house, killing civilians and committing sexual assaults. According to the World Health Organization, gunmen killed at least 460 people in a hospital and arrested doctors and nurses.
Efforts are being made to bring the RSF and Army for talks with Saudi Arabia aimed at a permanent peace agreement.
