Wolves are set to make a formal approach to Middlesbrough to appoint marauding Edwards as their head coach.
Sport Sport reported on Sunday that Edwards is one of the main contenders to replace Vitor Pereira, who is mired in an unbeaten season in the league.
Wolves have held talks with former boss Gary O’neil but the 42-year-old pulled out of the running on Monday.
Edwards has always been a strong candidate at the Molineux Club and is now developing as the Club’s preferred option.
It is understood that the threatened club has prepared an official approach to Middlesbrough, which is third in the championship.
Wolves are bottom of the table with just two points after 10 games – eight points adrift of 17th-placed Burnley.
Wolves understood that they had to pay a significant fee to Middlesbrough to get EDWants, who played for the Midlands Club from 2004 to 2008.
