Pauline Collins, Star of Shirley Valentine, dies at 85

Pauline Collins, the star of the film Shirley Valentine, for which she was Oscar nominated in 1990, died at the age of 85.

He died peacefully “aged 85 at his London nursing home surrounded by his family who had suffered from Parkinson’s disease for many years, his family said.

Collins is best remembered for her portrayal of the retired Shirley landlord in Lewis Gilbert’s Winning Film, based on Willy Russell’s acclaimed stage play.

Her critically acclaimed performance also won her the Golden Globe Award for best actress along with a BAFTA.
