Spong’s French lawyer, Anne-Claire Le Jeune, said her client had raised allegations of human trafficking regularly since 2017.
He said that the investigators sought to determine if the assistants of Fayed’s assistants in France, knew what was happening in London and if there was an understanding between them and the late billionaire.
“There is a question for individuals but also for the institution itself,” said Le Jeune of the Ritz. “Is this an area that facilitates the recruitment and transfer of young women to London?”
She added: “The ongoing inquiry should establish whether the Ritz and certain members of its staff were aware of the actions attributed to Mr Al Fayed, and whether they played any part in recruiting and transferring to the UK any individuals employed by him, knowing the conditions under which these acts allegedly took place.”
Spong explained that he had to undergo a close gynecological examination in London, the results of which, he said, revealed that he was diagnosed with a minor bacterial infection.

Spong’s complaint to the independent office for the conduct of the police said that the officers met with the claim that he was not very responsive to his sexual assault. His lawyer’s letter to the watchdog said this showed an “impatience with the victims” or an “institutional desire to insulate Mr Al Fayed from prosecution”.
Last year allegations emerged that corrupt police officers helped to end the persecution of members of his staff, including a young woman who allegedly opened up about the sexual advances of the sexual advances of the Harrods owner.
