The first trailer for the Michael Jackson Biopic has arrived online following reports of a troubled production.
Filming on Michael was completed in May 2024 and the film was originally scheduled for release in April 2025, a date pushed back to October, but reskoots are due once again in April 2026.
There are further reports that the film is being split into two parts, but the first trailer now suggests that it will be released as one movie.
The film comes from Director Antoine Fuqua, a director associated with action and thriller titles including training day, the equalizer and Olympus fell. The script is from John Logan, the Oscar-nominated Screenwriter of Gladiator, the Aviator and Hugo.
The central role will be played by Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s real-life nephew, while Oscar nominee Colman Domingo will play Joe Jackson and other roles filled in by actors including Miles Teller, Nia Long and Laura Harrier.
“Michael’s life is complicated,” The British Proushercer Graham King said about the project. “As a filmmaker, I look at the person but do not sanitize and present a very strong story that you can feel in a reaction that has a reaction that has an effect in a reaction that has a life that has a life and a legacy that is worth exploring.”
Allegations of sexual assault against Jackson were resurfaced in the 2019 Dan Reed documents that left the girls, which included interviews that claimed he claimed them as his children. Michael brought in a reported budget of $155m and is coming off the fall of the box office failure to return for this year’s Springteen Biopic, which has only made $31m since its release last month.
