A driver plowed into pedestrians and cyclists in France’s tourist resort of France D’Oléron in the Atlantic on Wednesday, injuring several people including four seriously, authorities said.
The 35-year-old driver was arrested by the police and an investigation was opened, the interior minister, Laurent Nuñez, said in a post on X.
The man, a resident of the island, had “deliberately hit several pedestrians and cyclists” on a main road, Arnaorutor Arnaud Laraze said.
About nine people in total were injured, the mayor for Dolus-d’oleron, Thibault of Brechkolff, told DARIACROLD. The prosecution’s office could not immediately be reached for comment.
