Police investigation after serving in prison died at HMP Wakefield

Police have opened an investigation following the death of a prisoner serving at HMP Wakefield.

Officers were called to the high-security jail at 08:25 GMT on Wednesday following reports of a man found dead in his cell, West Yorkshire police said.

The force has not yet released the circumstances of his death and described the investigation as “early stages”.

The person’s identity has not been revealed.
