Confronting footage of a disabled inmate being held and placed in a spit hood by prison guards after an epileptic seizure led to his death.

Hunt was not given a full medical check-up after his discharge, but was placed in a “dangerous” cell, with prison officials saying he had drug problems, the inquest heard on Wednesday.
The 56-year-old, who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident in 2008, was only days into a sentence that caused death at the Darwin Correctional Center on 29 August 2024.
After being stopped by the officers and separated from a nurse, the pangay was chased, placed in a leods of spit and taken in a wheelchair to a dangerous cell where he was found inexplicable the next morning.
He was taken to the hospital, but died there two days later.
On Wednesday, a corrections officer showed his own body-camera footage to his team requesting the hunt.
The officer – along with all other prison guards and health staff who appeared at the inquiry – cannot be identified under an interim preparatory order issued by the coroner.
The footage shows Hunt with his hands behind his back, face down on a mattress on the cell floor, moaning and screaming at officers telling him to “calm down” and not spit.
Cuts can be seen on his wrists where he struggled with the cuffs.

At one point in the video, he is asked if he has any drugs on him before being lifted from the cell, placed on a plastic chair and then taken to the Medical Center.
Under questioning by counsel assisting the coroner, Chrissy McConnel, the officer told the inquest that there was no medication for his actions.
He also said that he believed that the seizure episode in hunting time his team had reached.

The officer told the inquiry that, after consulting a nurse, he removed a socket and sleeve for the inmate’s prostate.
Another prison guard told the inquiry that he was placed in a dangerous cell that could be TV-monitored all night as a suicide risk.
But the guard said he heard an officer ask: “Why doesn’t this man go to the hospital?”
On Tuesday, the inquiry heard from a senior officer on Tuesday that he was his decision to treat hunting in a medical risk, because of his non-compliance and wrong behavior.
In December 2022, Hunt was driving his Ute in a supermarket car park when he accidentally hit the accelerator and slammed an 11-year-old boy against a wall. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death, which earned him three months in prison, but was later given the nine months requested by prosecutors.
He was only days into the new sentence when he had a seizure.
