Democratic Nominee Zohran Mamdani has been elected the 111th mayor of New York City, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Candidate Curtis Slywa.
The 34-year-old Democratic Socialist won with more than 50% of the vote to become the first Muslim in the town. Cuomo finished second with over 40%, while Sliwa received more than 7%.
Mamdani’s victory coincides with democratic victories across the country, with Abigail Spanberger electing Michie Gertarellial in Gavin Newsom’s Jack Newsom maps that will give Gavin five new seats.

How did the New York Vote go? Mamdani received more votes than all the other candidates combined. With 97% of the votes counted, he is at 50.4% of the total, while Cuomo is at 41.6% and SLIWA at 7.1%.
