The progressives woke up in a unique moment to celebrate the political election of Zohran Mamdani as the next mayor of New York, while the Republicans endlessly described it as a harbinger for the end of the country.
“The Future Sees Only a Little Light,” Barack Obama WRITES At X. “This is a reminder that if we come together around, top leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, writing In bluesky, it is said that Mamdani’s campaign shows that if we fight for bold policies like universal childcare that is more affordable for working families, we can win.
Democratic responses to Mamdani’s victory sought to portray it — and Tuesday’s other victories — as a direct public rebuke of Donald Trump and a sign that voters want to fight back.
“Last night was a referendum on Trump’s corruption, brutality, and chaos,” WRITES Chris Murphy, a senator from Connecticut, on social media. “But it’s also not a coincidence that these big wins come at the exact moment when Democrats are using our power to stand up for something and be strong. It’s a big risk not to learn that lesson.”
Many Republicans reacted, however, to the recognition of Mamdani’s victory in an electorate full of immigrants, suggesting that they are not “real” Americans. As the results from the competition rolled out on Tuesday night, senior White House Policy Stephen Miller posted a screenshot from 2023 report At One New York City’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, nearly half of the city’s households have at least one immigrant.
The US president, meanwhile, usually prepares himself, posting in all caps: “‘Trump is not on the ballot, and the two reasons the Republicans lost the election tonight’, according to the pollsters.”
Democratic representative Pramila Jayapal returned the next morning: “Trump and his extremist policies are on the ballot – and shutting down Republicans is bad for Republicans.”
On Wednesday morning, Trump seemed more thoughtful as he had breakfast with Republican senators, but doubled down on the closing blast. “I thought there was going to be a discussion after the press leaves about what the evening was all about, and what we should do about it,” he said. “And also about the shutdown, how it relates to last night. I think if you read the pollsters, the shutdown is a big, negative factor for Republicans.”
Other Republicans were more histrionic, referring to the film’s escape from New York, which stopped a Muslim from electing jihadists, and suggested that conservative voters would punish Democrats in the midterms for it.
“Join me in a moment of silence for NYC,” As The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. “Thoughts and prayers.”
“Florida has welcomed those fleeing Communist and socialist regimes for decades,” WRITES Senator Rick Scott of Florida. “Tonight is no different – Florida will welcome all the loving women who fall in love with New York!”
“Democrats in New York City elected a true extremist and Marxist, and the consequences will be felt across the country,” the speaker of the house, Mike Johnson, WRITESfalsely claiming that Mamdani’s policies included “tightening the police, expropriating private property and massive tax increases”.
Conservative candidates often make opposition to what they call “big democrats” in their campaigns in state and local elections like a profublicans made to do in Mamdani.
“What happened in New York is a disgrace. Socialism is un-American, plain and simple,” WRITES Senator John Cornyn of Texas, then added, referring to many Texas politicians Jasmine Crockacks Colin Crockitan Crourice who is useless in Texas. “
