Good morning. David Lammy Will get his first PMQ appearance today as Deputy Prime Minister, as Keir Starmer heads to the Cop30 climate conference in Brazil. That means he will have the job of dealing with all the questions raised by Rachel Reeves yesterday that is approaching the confirmation of the tax revenue will rise in the budget.
While there is a lot of controversy about what measures should be with the budget, in an unusual development that does not say that the structure of the tax system should change. Olivia Konotey-Ahulu there is a story.
The initiative is led by Center for tax analysis (Centax), a thought. Its director, Arun Advani, States:
The UK tax code is riddled with inequities and distortions that discourage investment, penalize employment and stifle productivity. There is widespread agreement on the need for proper reform. The upcoming budget is an opportunity for the Chancellor to look at the tax rate as a whole, and make sure that whatever the total tax rate is, any changes also serve his growth mission.
Two important reports were published overnight. As such Richard Partington The reports, the British Review says says that businesses should play a more important role in reducing unemployment that is not related to health.
And, like Richard Adams The reports, a review of the curriculum in England recommends reducing the amount of content and emphasizing exams and instead focusing on life skills and “development”.
I will hide the reaction of two of those.
Here is the agenda for the day.
Morning: Kemi Badenoch is visiting North-East Scotland with Russell Fishlay, the Scottish Conservative Leader.
Noon: David Lammy, the Deputy PM, took PM for the first time, as Keir Starmer traveled to the Cop30 conference in Brazil. The Tories are still saying who will reject Badekoch.

If you want to contact me, please post a message below the line when comments are open (normally between 10:00 pm today), or message me on social media. I don’t read all the BTL messages, but if you put “Andrew” in a message directed at me, I’m more likely to see it because I’m looking for posts that contain that word.
If you want to flag something quickly, it’s best to use social media. You can reach me on bluesky at @ andrewsparrowgdn.bsky.socy. The Guardian has lost posting from the official X accounts, but the individual Guardian journalists are still there, I still have an account, and if you message me there at @and prournsparrow, I can see it and respond if necessary.
I find it very helpful when readers point out errors, even small typos. No mistake is too small to correct. And I also found your questions interesting as well. I can’t promise to answer them all, but I’ll try to answer as many as I can, either on BTL or sometimes on the blog.
