The perceived campaign of a woman who believes she is missing Madeleine McCann has had no real impact on Gerry and Kate McaniN, her defense team has argued with the defense team.

Addressing the trial at Leicester Crown Court, representing Polish National Julia Wandelt, said her client only approached the McCanns as a last resort.

He said: “It’s a tragedy in this case that the McCanns have had to live with the interference in their lives since 2007, but when you look at the impact of his achievements.”

Both Miss Wandelt and Co-accused Karen Spragg were accused of floating Gerry and Kate McCann.

Mr. Price said the first contact made by his client at Glenfield Hospital and Gruy in June 2022 did not affect the McCanns, and was made in a genuine hope to answer “complex questions about his background”.

He said Miss Wandelt contacted 23 different organizations including the UK, Poland, and Portugal including the police and Interpol, Madeline’s Missing WebSite.

He said: “When she contacted the McCanns, she tried everything. This was a woman at the end of her tether.”

He argued that the suffering of the Police of Metropolitan Police did not take his visit seriously, with his client ordering within 24 hours of contact with them.

“He just wanted the certainty of a DNA test, it could have been done, it wasn’t done,” he said.

There was no concern the police returned to the McCanns when they learned of Miss Wind Sand Wandelt’s claims through a routine operations meeting, said Mr Price.

“He was a man who was completely taken advantage of. And what did he get out of it? All he got out of it was a period of custody and a price order.

Karen Spragge’s Spruggor Simon Russell Flint KC said his client’s “sole aim is to find out if the Missing Moteleine McCann, the Missing Moteleine McCann,.

After arriving following Miss WandElt’s appearance in a youtube broadcast in September 2024, she “supports” “no” “encouragement”, said Mr. Russell Flint.

He said: “If you ask how a child disappears, it’s like thin air, are you a conspiracy theorist?”

He said Mrs Spragg’s “intention was not to cause the McCanns to suffer” and when she was involved in 2024, there was no DNA evidence to disprove her theory.

Mr. Russell Flint said: “Not until the arrest of Julia Wandelt, almost three years after she was first questioned and months after others were questioned.

“Before anyone could stand up and say with absolute certainty and say Julia Wandelt is not Madeleine Mcann, and that’s a real irony in this case.

“This is the very test that Julia Wandelt, Karen Spragg and others have been begging to be done.”

Mr Russell Flint said it was “clear” his client was in no danger to the McCanns, as he was only arrested when Miss Wandelt flew back to the UK in February.

Julia Wandelt, 24, of Jana Kochanowskiego in Lubin, Poland, and Karen Spragg, 61, of Cariff Road caused the Mccanns great alarm and distress between June 2022 and February 2025.
