Golf events at LIV will continue up to 72 holes from 2026, putting it in line with established sports tours.
The circuit sponsored by Saudi Arabia begins in 2022 with 54-hole events and the non-stop format of events that play players denied.
Most LIV events are played from Friday to Sunday but now contact is now from Thursday during tournament weeks – except for one Wednesday at Golf Riyadh.
Two-time major winner Jon Rahm, who won his second straight LIV title in August, said “it’s a win for the league, and the players”.
“LIV Golf is the golfer’s league,” said the former world number one. “We are competitors to the core and we want every opportunity to compete at the highest level and perfect our craft.
“The move to 72 holes is the logical next step that strengthens the competition, tests us more thoroughly, and, if the growing galleries from last season, have any indication that the fans will like it.”

Golf Golf players drop the rankings with Rahm currently 71st in the world while Dustin Johnson, another former world number one, is 604.
“Playing 72 holes feels a little bit like the big tournaments we all play,” Johnson said. “I always like the grind in four phases.”
Bryson Demambeau, who is also on the Liv Tour, added: “Everyone wants to see the best player in the world, especially the elite, and for the good of the game.”
For each regular season event, individual competition will be decided over 72 holes of stroke play.
The team competition will continue to run concurrently, with each individual’s cumulative Stroke Play points determining the team result.
