The head of Britain’s richest family, Gopichand Hinduja, has died aged 85.
Known as GP, Mr Hinduja and his family made their fortune from the Indian conglomerate Hinduja Group, which operates in 11 sectors including finance, media and entertainment, and oil.
It has about 200,000 employees worldwide.
The family said in a statement: “He will leave a deep hole in our family’s heart.”
They added that he will be “remembered for his terrible work”.
Mr Hinduja helped transform his father’s modest businesses into a global conglomerate and one of India’s largest companies.
Mr Hinduja and his family topped the latest Sunday time rich list with a net worth of £35.3BN. They also ranked 11th in Forbes list of 100 richest businessmen in India in 2024.
Mr Hinduja is the second eldest of four brothers who have controlled the business for decades.
The eldest of the four, Srichhand, died in 2023 at 87.
It is not known who will now take over the leadership of the conglomerate. The youngest brother Ashok, runs operations across India including Truck Maker Ashok Leyland.
The family also owns significant estates in London, including several large houses near St James’s War Park in Whitehall, which have recently been renovated to include a hotel.
Mr Hinduja never kept a secret from the public but was involved in the controversial “Hinduja Affair” in 2001, which resulted in Lord Peter Mandelson resigning as an MP.
Mr Hinduja wrote to Mr Mandelson about his brother Prakash getting British citizenship, after the Millennium Dome Family Charity, for which Mr Mandelson was responsible.
Mr Mandelson resigned as a result, but was later cleared of wrongdoing after an inquiry.
Papa, who is his wife, their son and his wife Imprisoned in a Swiss Courland Last year for the enjoyment of the house staff in their Geneva mansion.
